1. Rick's son is clearly more comfortable/confident now, and his playing reflects it. But I was wary about seeing the band without the great Bun E. Carlos on drums. They're currently on tour with Aerosmith, though this show in a small theater took place on an off-night from that tour with Turnpike Troubadours headlining.
2. This was one of the 2 BEST Turnpike Troubadours shows I have seen. They always deliver, and I've been going to Turnpike Troubadours shows for 30 years. What a surprise, though it probably should not have been.
3. But things have changed, and for the better. I saw them at a casino shortly after he "retired" and thought they clearly were not as good without him. They were that good. It didn't hurt that they played a number of my favorite TT songs.
4. I'll bet they're blowing Aerosmith off the stage every night! Simply put, Turnpike Troubadours live is always a good time, but this show was one of the best. Highly recommended! The band seems rejuvenated and hungry again. House mix was great, and the band seemed happy to be there.
